The RWDS has engaged
in a vide range of projects including the establishment of nurseries,
bakeries, embroideries, home gardens and beauty salons and offering
training courses in issues relevant for the well-being and awareness of
rural women
Two examples of
recent projects:

Reproductive health
training in 14 women clubs
Purpose:
The purpose of the project is to
empower the women club members in the rural areas of Nablus,
Qalqilia and Hebron, by raising their awareness on their rights as
women and enhancing their ability to create a good life for
themselves and their families by offering them training in health
issues relating to reproductive health.

Duration:

Activities:
180 workshops and training sessions are conducted by
professional consultants who haven been chosen on the basis of
their thorough knowledge on women rights and reproductive health
and their skills to comunicate information in a adequate manner to
the rural women. The sessions also involve plays and roleplays
where the consultants are assisted by actors, who will demonstrate
the issues of women rights and health and invite the women to join
in the roleplays. In addition, UNFPA supports the project, by
donating agricultural grants to the most needy of the
participating rural women.

Beneficiaries:
800 rural women
from the 14 involved clubs participate in the training
program.

Location:
The project targets women
clubs in the West Bank areas of Nablus, Qalqilia and Hebron. The
three areas are extremely exposed to the negative effects of the
occupation and especially the women suffer from the harch
conditions that characterise daily life.

Support and income
generating project in Ramallah district
Purpose:
The project
will support three women clubs in the Ramallah district by
establishing two bakeries and a nursery. The purpose of
establishing the two bakeries in the villages of Arrurah and Kufur
Niemeh is to provide job chances and stable
incomes for poor RWDS club members. Furthermore the
project will generate income for the women clubs in the two
villages and thereby enable them to implement future activities.
The purpose of initiating a nursery in Al-Mazari is to open up the
possibility of greater participation in the labour market,
educational system as well as the womens clubs for mothers of
young children.

Implementation
period: June 2007 - June 2008

Activities: In the case of
the bakeries, a specialised consultant
advises
the club’s boards on the productivity, marketing, competence, and
future advantage
of establishing the bakeries. Appropriate houses, furniture and
equipment is purchased and the bakeries are officially registered.
Prior to the opening of the baceries a consultant runs a week of
intensive training
In the
case of the nursery interviews are run to sellect an apropriate
kindergarden teacher, and toys and other equipment is purchased, and
the registration of children is opened. The responcible RWDS
extension worker supervises and monitors the nursery.

Beneficiaries: The ten women who are provided job
opportunities are the main beneficiaries. In addition the villages
of Arrurah and Kufur Niemeh benefit from the bread production as
well as Al-Mazari-families benefit from the opportinity of daycare
for their youngest
|
